As an example of EnVisioneering at work, Danfoss offers drive solutions for advanced motion control. To meet industrial, water and waste water, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) application demands, our offering includes soft starter, industrial control, gear motor, and frequency converters/variable frequency drives.

Danfoss VLT® Series Drives provide precise, variable-frequency control of speed, torque, acceleration, synchronization, positioning and the overall performance of AC motors. For HVAC fan motors and pumps, Danfoss's expertise in variable frequency technology is seen in the new VLT HVAC Drives. This advanced technology regulates temperature, pressure, and flow more accurately to save more energy, and it also connects with building automation systems to enhance performance and simplify troubleshooting.
Energy Efficiency

The reason to use variable-frequency technology in HVAC applications is simply to maximize energy savings. That's why Danfoss VLT HVAC Drives incorporate features dedicated to the particular demands of HVAC. Because the bulk of HVAC operation is not at full loads, VLT HVAC Drives use Automatic Energy Optimization (AEO) to adjust motor voltage constantly to match changing speed and load conditions—a feature that in itself cuts energy consumption by 5 to 10%. An exclusive Digital Voltage Vector Control provides nearly perfect output current sine wave and full rated motor voltage at rated frequency, further boosting efficiency in both drive and motor. And a Sleep Mode Function determines whether pumps or fans are running needlessly and then turns them off—a simple way to save even more energy.
Engineering Innovations

In addition to making it easier to save energy, the VLT HVAC Drive makes it simpler to set up and operate the system. For OEM's, the VLT HVAC Drive incorporates a built-in two setpoint PID controller, eliminating the need for a separate setpoint or PID controller.

For communications, a built-in EIA-485 serial interface supports communications for up to 31 drives over a 5,000-foot bus. Major protocol support is built in, with an optional BACLink portal. That makes the Danfoss VLT HVAC Drive the technology of choice for HVAC applications where building owners and operators want the best in environmental performance.
