Environment Environmental responsibility ... providing a financial and social payback

Who's helping your company succeed financially and socially?

The idea of "sustainable development" has grown in importance since it was first defined in 1987 as development that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

Today, this definition also applies to "environmental sustainability," which is concerned with minimizing the ecological and social impact of technology on the local and global environment. While sounding idealistic, environmental sustainability easily translates into practices that help a company achieve sustainable business growth.
Banking on the business of being responsible

To bring the benefits of environmental sustainability to our customers, Danfoss leads the way by our own example. We joined the International Chamber of Commerce for Sustainable Development in 1991 and the U.N. Global Compact in 2002. Consequently, we weigh environmental factors when selecting our suppliers.

In recent years, we have used our own products in our own plants to decrease water consumption by 22% and to save millions of dollars in utility costs.

For one of our customers, our frequency converters cut electricity consumption 3.5 million MWh, the equivalent of a 400 MW power plant operating for a full year. For another, our control systems reduced energy consumption 35%, saving over 270,000 MWh per year, the equivalent of eliminating 187,200 tons of CO2 emissions.
